Today, new nursing graduates face challenges that many of us never considered when we started our careers. The ongoing COVID pandemic, staff shortages, supply shortages, long hours, senior nursing staff leaving the inpatient settings, burnout – the list is endless of what healthcare professionals are up against. The prospect of starting a career in home health in contrast to an inpatient setting is an increasing and appealing option. Home health nurses are trained and care for a variety of patients. They are independent, resourceful, well-rounded, initiative, and flexible.
Our new Graduate Nurse Fellowship Program at Advantage aims to recruit and train new graduate nurses passionate about Advantage’s mission to provide high-quality care to patients one-on-one in the comfort of their home environment. The 12-week program is structured to guide new nurses as they start their careers by teaching new skills and concepts as well as how to care for and manage patients with a variety of health conditions from post-surgical joint replacements to chronic congestive heart failure patients and everything in between.
Nurses accepted into our Fellowship Program will be partnered with both a field mentor and a mentor from the Quality Assurance team to assist in training them both on hands-on patient care and completing high-quality documentation. They will also be able to practice skills in a simulation environment, including placing catheters, drawing labs, inserting IV lines, placing wound vacs, placing colostomy appliances, and charting.
This exciting new program will provide the resources for new graduate nurses to excel and join a company that values its clinicians. Home health offers the opportunity for new nurses to learn a variety of skills and how to care for a multitude of patient conditions outside of a typical 12-hour inpatient shift.
